Territorial Gold Medalists 2017

Mission and Vision

Skills Canada Nunavut is a non-profit organization working to reposition skilled trades and technologies as a first choice career option for Nunavut youth. In partnership with governments, schools, industry professionals and educators, our organization is helping to address Nunavut’s need for a strong skilled workforce.

Skills Canada Nunavut guides students toward available opportunities in skilled trades and technologies through events and programs like Skills competitions. Skills Canada Nunavut and its partners in business, industry, labour, education, and government, are helping to secure Nunavut's future skilled workforce needs.

Our Purpose

Through initiatives such as the Territorial Skills Competitions,  Workshops for Youth, Cardboard Boat Races, and Nunavut Trade Show participation, Skills Canada Nunavut strives to engage youth in the all aspects of the territory's trades and technology sectors.

At the height of our competition season and other program events, we count on the support and expertise of hundreds of volunteers from a variety of sectors; government, education, labour and industry. Working together, the goal of Skills Canada Nunavut is to:

  • Change the image of careers in the skilled trades and technologies

  • Increase the awareness of Nunavut’s skilled workforce needs

  • Provide effective programs and events that raise awareness of the current and emerging careers in trades and technology

  • Create and promote tangible opportunities for the private sector to interact with and enhance education for students

  • Provide a positive experience for students who participate in skills activities and to reach as many communities as possible

  • Help improve the expertise and confidence of young individuals pursuing trades and technology careers

  • Foster dynamic partnerships with industry, education and governments devoted to developing workplace ready skills in youth

  • Put Nunavut youth and industries in the national spotlight
